Welcome

Welcome to the England blog! Today my friend and I arrived in England! The citizens here are so generous and the scenery is beautiful! We will introduce you to the lands and people of this great country.

Climate

England has a marine west coast climate because it is near water and it is on the windward side of the mountains. It is close to the Atlantic Ocean, the northern latitude, and a warm current of the northern Atlantic Ocean.

Ecosystem

England is home to mid-latitude deciduous forests because it does not have a very high elevation. Also in England is currently under reforestation, or the replanting of trees. England had lost many habitats, and therefore many animals can only be found in zoos. The ecosystem has been changed by humans, and the forests and grasslands were cleared long ago. Now, they're slowly growing back in a few of the protected forests.

Natural Resources

England has an abundant supply of coal, petroleum, natural gas, limestone, iron ore, salt, slate, lead, and arable land. Although coal is a very important resource to have, it is extremely harmful to the environment. The burning of coal plays a big role in air pollution because it relseases sulfer, carbon dioxide, and uranium into our air. England also uses its river systems as a hydroelectric power system. The pros to using water as a power is that there is no harm towards the environment such as pollution or deforestation.

Human Environment Interaction

The Industrial Revolution, which began in the 1700s, was a huge impact on the world as we know it. Thanks to the Industrial Revolution, we now have anesthesia, photographs, phonographs, steam engines, and more. During that time period, Britain became very wealthy. However, along with the new industries, there was a lot of air pollution. English poet William Blake stated that the "dark, Satanic mills" spoiled" England's green and pleasant land."

England shares borders with its neighboring countries, Wales and Scotland. It is also bordered by the North Sea, the Irish Sea, and the English Channel. England was first divided in areas by the ancient Romans when they had control over England.

Culture

English is the official language of England. About 71% of England's population is Christian. The earliest evidence of Christianity in England was in the 2nd century A.D. At the time, Englad was under control of the Romans. Thr ancient Romans introduced the religion during their rule, and Christianity slowly spread over the rest of England.

Fish and chips are a very common dish found in England. They are not usually cooked at home because they are bought in stores, such as in Chippie.
